I can’t think of anything better to offer the world’s population that is chronically under stress, oppressed by polluted air, inundated with toxic food, chemicals, water, and heavy metals than green juice. The anti-oxidants, sulfuraphanes and other super powered nutrients that come from juicing greens cool and calm the gut, allow for quick assimilation of nutrients, and repair the cells at the mitochondria level.
Juicing greens has numerous benefits. Green juices are very alkalizing, cleansing, healing, hydrating and restorative. Disease, inflammation, pain and cancer all thrive in an acidic environment. You can rebuild muscle and damaged cells through green juicing. Green juicing offers a large cross-section of different nutrients from a variety of different greens and sprouts, it’s like drinking a liquid salad bowl. Green juice supplies the body with chlorophyll and sulfuraphanes. Chlorophyll has many benefits to the body; neutralizes toxins in the body, helps purify the liver, improve blood sugar problems, regulates digestion, helps rebuild tissues, antibacterial and much more. Sulfuraphanes donate an extra electron that binds to free radicals which wreak havoc in the body and neutralize them so that they may be properly excreted by the body.
Green juice can be any combination of green vegetables you have on hand. I love adding fennel for its light and refreshing taste and cooling and calming effect on the digestive tract. Celery brings a salty flavor to juice. Greens like kale that are dark green are loaded with antioxidants, iron, and are rich in magnesium. Cucumbers are watery and have a mucilaginous property that is healing and reduces intestinal inflammation. Herbs like parsley and cilantro aid in pulling out specific toxins like heavy metals in the body and are rich in the full nutrient spectrum. Parsley is rich in potassium. Other herbs like mint bring a cool refreshing flavor. Adding a lemon is powerfully helps to detoxify the body, helping to rinse and detox the organs. The roots of ginger, stimulate the digestive fire (agni) and turmeric, a curcumin, is an anti-inflammatory and heals the joints, reducing painful inflammation. You can sweeten your juice by adding a little apple or pineapple, but best if you can make a juice without fruit. Green juice can be used to heal the body from chronic disease, degenerative disease, and aging. Institutes like Hippocrates Health Institute uses green juice as their main therapy to aid patients who are suffering from cancer and other disease to heal.
A 32 oz. glass of fresh green juice may supply much of the protein an average adult needs each day. Believe it or not, leafy greens are 30% protein. Green vegetable juice won’t spike your blood sugar and insulin level like fruits and sweet vegetables like carrots and red beets will. It’s best to combine those in your green juices instead of drinking alone.
This is why I am recommend a green juice a day. Health is wealth, all it takes is one glass of green juice. Do the best you can, start slow and enjoy the benefits.
- 1-2 Cucumbers
- 1 Fennel bulb
- 3-5 Celery stalks
- 5-7 Dinosaur leaf stalks
- ¼ Bunch of parsley
- ¼ Bunch of cilantro
- 5 Sprigs of mint
- ½ Inch fresh ginger root
- ½ Inch fresh turmeric root
- 1 lemon
- Wash and prep all vegetables quarter most things so that they fit in the top juicer.
- Put the vegetables through one at a time.
- When the screen filter gets full, use a spoon to gently guide the juice through.
- Decant the juice into a mason jar.
- Drink to good health.
- Store up to 12 hours, but for best freshness enjoy immediately.
